Making Waves
Changing the face of age related dual sensory impairment
Lots of people think of being unable to hear well and having trouble seeing things clearly as just part of getting older. But we don’t think about it until this gradual wear and tear, this part of ageing, impacts on everything we do.
Stop for a moment and think about the simple things you do every day. How you would do these when your hearing and sight are both really getting worse?
From when we wake up until we go to sleep, as our senses detrioarate we risk losing the confidence to do key parts of daily life:
- Mobility, our ability and confidence to get around, go places, when we want
- Access information, our ability to read, use our mobiles, hear people talking
- Communication, our ability to connect with others, be part of the conversation
Without advice and support, we will lose these abilities. We will become isolated and lonely as we slowly lose our independence and contact with others.
But with advice and guidance from trained, qualified and experienced people we can learn how to successfully manage the way wear and tear affects every one of us, now and when it changes.
So how and where can you learn about this?
